In 1967 an X-15 flew at 4520 mph. Three pilots also flew them into space.
Between 1976 and 2003, Concordes flew passengers on trans-Atlantic scheduled flights at up to 1341 mph
Between 1964 and 1999, SR-71s flew reconnaisance missions at speeds up to 2193 mph
In 1969 to 1972 the Lunar Landers of the Apollo program put 12 men on the moon, and Apollo returned them safely.
In 1977 Voyager 1 probe was launched. It is now over 130 times the distance between Earth and Sun, way past the outermost edge of the Solar System and still reporting back on new discoveries. BTW, ET and Capt Kirk and Mr Spock are also twentieth century creations.
Pretty good stuff out of the twentieth century. Of course, the current century can offer … Facebook and i-phones?
